			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As I write this blog, tax returns are due to be filed in two weeks.  Most everyone I know is a “wage slave” meaning their taxes have been withheld and they are due a refund.  I know some who filed 8 weeks ago anxious to get their hands on that refund.  I know others who despite the refund, are planning to file an extension to get six more months to prepare their return – quite a range!</p>
<p>Likewise, when one is networking &#8211; via LinkedIn, email or phone – the range of response times will be equally broad.  Some will be instant but, for most, the odds of a quick response are slim.  We all have a lot on our plates – tax returns to file, other priorities &#8211; so responding to a networking request may take a number of days and a couple of reminders.  If one follows the four Ps of effective networking, most requests will ultimately receive a response.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Patient – </strong>if you expect a quick response, you will become frustrated and that frustration will show and “poison” your communications.  On the hand, if you expect no one to respond without follow-up, and organize for that follow-up, you will take the varied response time in stride and patiently allow sufficient time between follow-ups.</li>
<li><strong>Persistent – </strong>the best sales professionals will follow-up routinely <span style="text-decoration: underline;">for months</span> … and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">get the sale.</span> Don’t give up after only a couple of attempts!</li>
<li><strong>Polite – </strong>Stay very polite – remember you are asking for a favor – politeness makes people want to help you.  Those who complain too much to the waiter that their soup is cold get served soup with a dollop of spit!</li>
<li> <strong>Professional – </strong>when you combine patience, persistence and politeness, you appear highly professional – just the kind of person one would want to connect to, assist, and be perceived as a valuable person to have in one’s network.  In networking, though you are <span style="text-decoration: underline;">the one seeking</span> a lead, referral, contact or intelligence, <span style="text-decoration: underline;">the more the other person perceives you as a valuable person to know</span>, the more likely they will assist you!</li>
</ol>

<li>Must be a real creator, architect, someone who has created something amazing from scratch at least once in their career.  Need someone who saw an opportunity or a problem and figured out how to solve it at a company in SaaS, cloud, IaaS, PaaS, enterprise software, etc.</li>
<li>Must be a Visionary who can create the strategy around current and future technologies and products that will capture the imagination of both developers and the market place.  Need someone who can assimilate info coming from different places and distill it down to a coherent strategy.  Need someone who can be pragmatic about it, not religious.</li>

<li>Must be someone who can win the hearts and minds of the developers, gaining their respect.  Need someone that the developers are going to look at and say “Wow!  He/she is a brilliant technologist!”  Prefer someone who can help recruit and retain great talent.</li>
<li>Must be able to be the Tech Evangelist for the company.  Need someone who is super smart with good opinions that can get up on a white board and blow people away.  Prefer someone who enjoys blogging, tweeting, writing articles, books, etc.  Prefer someone who enjoys public speaking at conferences, seminars, etc and meeting with clients, prospects, analysts, investors, etc.  Someone who has their own patents would be ideal.</li>

<p>POSITION REQUIREMENTS:</p>
<ul>
<li>Must have recently held a Director/Manager level position with responsibility for customer acquisition, online marketing and search at a subscription based, e-commerce company.</li>
<li>Over the next 3-5 years, must be able to create and successfully execute a long term new user acquisition strategy to increase conversion rates and drive traffic to our domain and network of sites in addition to capturing existing demand of our b2b and b2c customers.  This position plays a key role in the success of the company&#8217;s ROI.</li>
<li>Must have a history of quota achievement and a track record of success in acquiring online customers and increasing conversion rates.  Need marketers who have a demonstrated record of online results.</li>
<li>Must have a strong background in search marketing knowing that company is focused on both SEM and SEO in 2012 to drive company top line.</li>
<li>Must be able to build and manage a team of 3-4 channel experts (SEM, SEO, Affiliates and Paid Partners) AND help drive the search team, specifically, to aggressive growth goals in 2012.</li>
<li>Must be able to optimize the search channels to meet and exceed the operating plan.   Must be able to demonstrate success in growing and optimizing paid and organic search channels.</li>
<li>Must have experience managing an e-commerce acquisition budget of $500k+ monthly OR shown success in growing subscriber accounts cost effectively.</li>
<li>Must have experience managing a subscription based ops plan based on bookings and growth of new subscribers.  Client wants to see someone with a history of success growing subscriber base significantly through search.</li>

<p>POSITION REQUIREMENTS:</p>

<li>Must recently held a marketing leadership position with responsibility for Direct Marketing, Loyalty &amp; Retention Marketing, Online Marketing, CRM and Segmentation, Analytics, and P&amp;L Management at a subscription based, e-commerce company.</li>
<li>Must be able to develop, articulate and execute engagement and monetization strategy.  Must be able to figure out how to at least double customer engagement and monetization.  Enhance and optimize customer segmentation with predictive models.  Drive innovation and development of customer engagement lifecycle contact strategy to increase productivity of customer database and ensure marketing effectiveness.</li>
<li>Must be able to scope and develop business rules and data attribution for implementation of real-time optimization to support personalized content and product merchandising via website and email.</li>
<li>Must be able to develop acquisition and marketing strategy to support international initiatives.</li>
<li>Must have a history of quota achievement and a track record of success.  Need marketers who have a demonstrated record of online results.</li>
<li>Need someone who enjoys the entrepreneurial atmosphere of a small company, but has been through the experience of scaling up an enterprise to significant organization size and revenues. Experience working in a dynamic (i.e. “startup”) environment is preferred.  IPO experience is a huge plus.</li>
<li>Must be a great leader, strong manager and be focused on hiring and developing top talent.  You will be fully in charge of your numbers, growth and hiring plan.  You will only have 4 people reporting to you initially.  Need to assess your team and make sure you have all A players, and then build the team to about 8 people within the next year.</li>
